California Summer by Michael Lee Johnson

Carlsbad Sunset

Coastal warm breeze
off  Santa Monica, California
the sun turns salt
shaker upside down
and it rains white smog, humid mist.
No thunder, no lightening,
nothing else to do
except sashay
forward into liquid
and swim
into eternal days
like this.

  1. I enjoy the phrase “sashay / forward into liquid” tremendously. I don’t see the word “sashay” much any more. To find it here, in this context, is especially fun. The image of one foot skipping after the other in classic “shashay” steps into the water is a pleasure to imagine.
